Demographic Targeting

As soon as any one of us decides to start up a business, be it small scale or big time, one of the biggest questions that we could perhaps draw in our minds is: “Would my product sell?” Many times experienced and juvenile businessmen alike have come up with their respective detailed strategies just to arrive with the best possible answer to this particular question, only to realize that it all boils them down to one specific, and conceivably one of the most enduring business strategies there is, marketing.

Marketing is such a broad idea not only business analysts are in constant contact with, but many potential self-starters as well. To our use though, we could trim it down to the widely-popular internet marketing which is as crucially and equally important both to businessmen and consumers as instant noodles are to Koreans.

When it comes to making a product sell, the first step you probably couldn’t afford to miss is to identify your target, which happens to be the consumers. But with the appalling internet traffic, this probably needs a little added effort other than simply knowing the target. No particular product will appeal to everyone online, so to make certain that your investment is going somewhere, you must aim at a specific group of potential consumers rather than going general. This is where demographic targeting comes into picture.

Think of it this way . . . If you want to sell say, a tanning lotion, which group of people would you most likely advertise your product to- Asians or Caucasians? Our common sense would surely have us pick the latter. Demographic studies tell us that more white-skinned people want to get a tan more than fair-skinned or brown-skinned people for that matter, although this doesn’t necessarily hold true to everyone.

So if you are an affiliate marketer who wishes to be a big catch to advertisers, make use of demographic targeting as one of your core strategies. Give particular emphasis to a larger demographic group than a small one. The bigger the potential consumer population, the more likely the business will grow. Think like Ariel in Little Mermaid- there’s more out there than what you can actually perceive. You should give your best shot for this one-time, big-time deal other affiliates could only dream of. You will be surprised at how useful this can be. :-)
